At Mary Exton Primary School we want to actively encourage our pupils and staff to walk, scoot or cycle to school as this:
· keeps us fit and healthy
· helps our pupils develop road safety skills which will keep them safe as they travel further afield and more independently
· keeps our local air clean and our streets free from congestion
· encourages life skills that everyone should be able to benefit from
We would like to reduce the number of children travelling to and from school by car as we know traffic and parking around the school is a huge safety concern and can disturb our local community and pollute our local environment. We have developed a School Travel Plan (STP) to promote and facilitate sustainable travel for the school journey:
Throughout the school year there are many ways in which we promote and target active travel to school, including ‘Walk to School Week’, Bikeability training for our Year 5s, Road Safety training, and Scooter and Cycling safety. Many of these initiatives are delivered by Hertfordshire County Council as part of their partnership with Modeshift Stars.
