School day

Like all primary schools, and as outlined in the White Paper, we provide 32.5 hours of teaching a week.

For all of our pupils (Reception through to Year 6) our school day runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm.  Our school gates open five minutes before and stay open for 10 minutes to allow our pupils a soft start to the day. We ask that children are dropped off no later than 8:50am. If for any reason you are late, you will need to go to the school office to sign your child in as the register will have already been completed..

As the chidlren arrive in class, they are welcomed with a morning activity whilst the register is taken.  For our younger learners (Reception through to Year 2) then will then go straight into phonics.  This early morning learning is so important and so punctuality is important for all of our families.

At the end of the day, we open the gates for collection at 3:10pm, and all children must be collected by 3:15pm (unless they are going to our after school provider: Rising Stars or are attending one of our extra curricular clubs..

Before and After School Club: Rising Stars

We are very lucky to have an outside company, Rising Stars, provide wrap around care for our pupils.  They provide a breakfast club before school where you are able to drop your child from 7:30am.  They are able to have breakfast and a range of activities are provided up until the start of school.  If you have children registered to attend Rising Stars Breakfast Club they will automatically go through to their classroom in time for registration.

After school, Rising Stars provide care until 6pm.   If you have children registered to attend Rising Stars After School Club their names will be added to a list which is kept in their classroom so that the teaching and support staff know how to direct them.  At the after school provision, they are given a supper as well as different activities each evening to enjoy.  The staff are extemely friendly and are consistent.  They even support our lunchtime provision with activites for our KS1 and KS2 playgrounds.

For further information, do visit our Breakfast and After School Clubs page for further details.

Alternative Arrangement Notifications

We need to make sure that each child at Mary Exton is met by their parent or carer at the end of the day.

When your child starts at Mary Exton you complete a children collection form (please see our Policies, forms and instructions page).

If you are making alternative arrangements for a family member or friend to pick up your child, please inform the school office team in plenty of time, even if it is another parent who is already known to the school.
