English - Writing

Reading and writing are taught together and are key to enabling children to access and progress across the whole curriculum. We strive for children to read with fluency and understanding and for them to become life-long readers who enjoy and value books. Pupils are given opportunities to read for both information and pleasure.  They experience high quality literature and hear a broad range of ambitious and challenging language in a variety of lessons.

We provide children with the skills to speak and write fluently so that they are inspired to be able to communicate their ideas and emotions to others effectively, creatively and imaginatively. The skill of writing is taught, developed and applied across the whole school curriculum where pupils learn how to plan, revise and evaluate their writing. Pupils will progress and develop their skills in transcription and composition, have an awareness of the audience as well as write for purpose and in context.

We intend for children to have an increasingly wide knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar which improves and enhances their writing and to be able to use fluent, legible and speedy handwriting.
