Miss Voyce is our Science Subject Leader

 We provide children with the foundations for understanding the world, enabling children to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. The children are taught to understand how science can be used to answer questions, make predictions, draw conclusions and collect and analyse data. Children are familiar with, and use, technical terminology accurately and precisely. They take part in a range of scientific enquiry including: observing over time; pattern seeking; identifying, classifying and grouping; comparative and fair testing (controlled investigations); and researching using secondary sources.

 

 

The teaching of Science at Mary Exton will provide children with the foundations for understanding the world that they can take with them when they complete their primary education. Children will develop a love of science and be inquisitive, questioning ideas and reflecting on knowledge.

At Mary Exton, we have adapted the Herts for Learning Science scheme, as it provides the opportunity to build on learning each year as topics are recapped at the start and then new learning is developed. This ensures new learning can be linked to the old learning. Working scientifically objectives have been mapped into different topics areas. Science is taught weekly at Mary Exton, combining both knowledge and scientific enquiries.
