Subject Leader Action Plan

Our music curriculum seeks to give all students with a high-quality music education that engages and encourages them to build a life-long love of music, boosts their self-confidence, creativity, and imagination, and allows them to express themselves and achieve personal goals.

We provide children with opportunity to hone their skills in all parts of music, including composing, singing, and appreciation.

Children will be confident in their ability to sing and perform. They will get a thorough understanding of music from various cultures, periods, and genres. Children will perform and play instruments together while listening to and cooperating with one another.

Enrichment

The children at Mary Exton School enjoy a variety of opportunities to sing and perform, one of which being our Christmas Carol Concert. At Christmas and over the summer term, Year 2 and Year 6 put on annual productions. As part of our MFL assemblies, the children also learn to sign songs and sing songs in many languages.

In our weekly Music assemblies, the children are able to listen to music from many genres, cultures, and eras, providing them with an excellent opportunity to discuss what they have heard and how they feel about it.

We have a school choir that performs for in school events and participates in community activities. In previous years we have taken groups of K.S 2 children to sing at the O2 and The Albert Hall.

We are lucky enough to offer K.S 2 children Cello and woodwind peripatetic lessons once a week.
